I think I took more quotes from this book than I have any book I’ve read lately. One of my favorites?“You do not believe the allegations were true? Kate asked.
“Oh, it isn’t for me to judge! History says it is so, so what is a person to do?”
I had an affinity with Amara and appreciated her desire to tell her side of a story no one else knew. I liked how the story was about the Countess and yet not entirely. I also enjoyed how realistic the setting was. Although, I’ve never been to Venice, it was apparent Courtland had been. I could feel Amara's world in her words.

Very good book that makes you look at Elizabeth Bathroy in a whole new light. Helped you to get a better look at how life was then.
The characterization of the "players" brings the reader into the story and captures the imagination. I recommend this book for lovers of historical fiction.
i have to say i really enjoyed the first book, but this one fell flat. Amara goes from being head over heels in love with her husband to hopping in bed with a ex lover. i couldn't even finish the book for this reason. her ex lover whines and cries to her about how much he loves her and never meant to hurt her, and she becomes butter in his hands, betraying her husband who truly loves her. the writer needed to spend more time on the actual story of the countess bathory and not some weak minded lady in waiting.
I had read the first book (dandelions in the garden) and could not wait to read this book. I was delighted to find this second book even more enchanting than the first. I must admit I find it hard to believe the character Amara to be so dimwitted and foolish to the point where I actually thought she was developmentaly disabled. But all in all it was a good read and I would recommend it for those rainy nights when you just want to curl up with a good book.
Much like Dandelions in the Garden, I found myself so wrapped up in this book that I had a hard time putting it down. Again this was one of the best books I have read in a while. I was saddened to finish it only becasue I knew there was no more of the story left to be read.
This book wasn't bad. It wasn't GREAT, but it wasn't bad at all. I read the whole thing. The writing was decent. It was informative and the story was interesting.
The reader should know that this is book two in a two book series. You nearly have to read book one (Dandelions in the Garden) because this book begins right where the first one left off. I think you could understand what's going on but for the bigger picture and full story, you'll want to read this second. That being said, I loved both books and would recommend to anyone who enjoys historical fiction, especially historical fiction with a bit of a twist.
Hidden Will of the Dragon is told in flashbacks by narrator Amara, who is lady in waiting to Elizabeth, otherwise known as the Blood Countess. The twist to the history is that Amara is providing some explanation for Elizabeth's behavior, which rumors to include torture and murder.
Once again, the characters practically come to life. Charlie Courtland is a masterful storyteller, managing to weave emotion into her characters. Amara and Elizabeth in turn evoked emotion from me. I really enjoyed this retelling of Elizabeth Bathory. I not only liked the journey, but I liked the ending as well.
I think I took more quotes from this book than I have any book I’ve read lately. One of my favorites?
