I have a lot to say about this book so I may as well lay it all out.

First thing is, the prologue is very reader-engaging. You would be hooked and would want more of the story and I think that is what prologues are for. Our Demons, Best Friends prologue served its purpose.

The story follows Ava and Sebastian, both medical residents who got to know each other because they both practice in the same hospital. Ava has an eye for Sebastian who seem to be mysterious and hides a dark background. In the course of their residency, they both unlocked each other's pasts and got along well. The catch? Sebastian just flipped and sent mixed signals to Ava.

Since all the characters in the story are on their medical residency already, I assumed this is a new adult genre but while I was reading it, the behaviors and attitudes of the characters mimics that of a young adult. It kind of disturbed me a bit.

On the characters: Ava, the lead character has a lot of faith in her studies but lacks the confidence for herself which is a bit ambiguous, as for me.I like how she isn't afraid to confront her feelings while being reserved at the same time.

Sebastian is the kind of character you would want to get to know more but is also okay just the way he is.

The side/supporting characters are also very engaging. I like how they completed the story rather than being just a background.

On the storyline: I like the premise of the story. It was promising and too cute but I longed for more angst. (Okay the adult in me is looking for hot and steamy scenes. Hahaha!) My favorite part of the story is the fact that it revolved around the medical field and that they were all doctors. I've always wanted to be one so there's that! :)

On the writing: Scott's writing is flawless but Our Demons, Best Friends is just too wordy for me. I think there are unnecessary dialogues and descriptions there that are better left off. Aside from that, the writing is excellent and is very engaging.

Overall, I like this book and it is very promising. I want to read the next book already. Also, if you crave for a cute, easy and fast-paced book, this one is for you! I assure you, there is no boring parts!

Our demons best friends Half of Me Volume 1 Diana T Scott 9781511942867 Books Reviews

I voluntarily read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is one of the sweetest and complicated love stories I have read. Sebastian and Ava are two residents at the same hospital. Although Sabastian loves Ava; he doesn't think he is good enough for her. Ava feels just the opposite. Her roomies Emily, Paige and Miles remain her constant strength throughout this turbulent story. I loved that although there was this sexual tension between Ava and Sebastian; it was sweet and not extreme. The author made the story flow through the book. I couldn't put it down and read it in one night. I highly recommend this book.
Any book that takes place within a medical setting is going to pique my interest from the get-go, and this one is no exception. However, once I go after the bait, it takes more than setting alone to completely reel me in. Things like stellar writing, a certain depth in character development, a thought-provoking plot, and believable dialogue and behavior that make me cry and/or laugh out loud.

See? I don't expect much.

Seriously, no book is gonna do it all. I realize that. Some don't deliver on any of those factors. This book falls somewhere in the middle of the road. It was... enjoyable. Other reviews have described the story's main feature romance as a roller-coaster ride. To me, the whole book was more like a kiddie ride on a safe even keel, moderately entertaining, and with little doubt as to which way it's gonna go. The writing is straightforward and satisfactory enough, but overall, the book could have been better with more thorough editing.

If I were to describe this book in a single word, I'd call it "sweet," and I'm sure many readers will absolutely love it. Could be, I've been swimming in too many deep books recently, which made this book seem way too light-weight and shallow by comparison, and for that, I sincerely apologize to the author. As the trite saying goes, "It's not you; it's me."

I'd give it three and a half chubby little stars, rounded up to four.
Another author discovered on IG; another wonderful read. Ava is a young woman who is going through her first year of her medical residency at a major hospital in Chicago. Ava's twin sister died of an autoimmune disease when they were 14, and Ava is still dealing with this issue. When she falls for Sebastian, a third year resident, it's a rocky start to a relationship, between her hidden sorrows and his.

@dianatscott has written a beautifully crafted romance novel with a not-so-common backdrop. The normal "she has issues, he has issues" stereotype is finessed by Scott into a storyline that will grip the reader's heart. The characters are nicely fleshed out, and the realism put into Sebastian's confused state is refreshing. The tension built up in the " will they or won't they" is smoothly drawn among the stress of their medical careers. Diana Scott is another of those authors I put on my short Want to Read More From list.
