This novella is really a prequel to Lee's "The Bighead" and features "Trit "Balls" Connor & his pal Dicky as two of the main characters. Even though Balls & Dicky are a couple of lowlife degenerates that are without redeeming qualities as human beings, I laughed myself silly during much of their antics in this book. Not the violence, but just the interaction between the two and their total ignorance of anything beyond "runnin' shine" and "ruckin'." It's so easy to picture both these men in my head, the sounds of their voices and the words they're saying, the way they look, their facial expressions during some of the genuinely hilarious parts of this book that I couldn't help but find them downright endearing at times. The book is EXTREMELY graphic, but that's a bit part of Lee's charm. This is definitely not something you want your children to read and will not be thought of as a literary classic by history. But if you like your horror over the top with memorable characters and surprisingly funny moments, you'll really enjoy this.
